Description

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

~ Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

Well, I'm available...

Ever since I speed sewed a sort of Regency gown, I've wanted to make a new one, but fully in the right style and the right underwear. For this dress, I made a simple shift, a long regency stays, a bodiced petticoat, a bib-fronted dress, and this stovepipe bonnet.

I've really enjoyed making this as time-period correct as I could! I've been inspired by period dresses and spencers for the braiding detail on the sleeves. I've corded the petticoat and put in two rows of tucks.

Perhaps most of all, I really enjoyed making this bonnet! I'm very proud that I stitched everything by hand and didn't grabbed for the glue to sew on the flowers and ribbons. I really love it!

Unfortunately, we had two heavy showers and the hem of my dress was a foot deep in mud (making me think of that scene where Elizabeth calls upon her ill sister at Netherfield Park. Also, here my curls are still high on my face, but they hung beneath my chin in the end. Luckily the dress is made of simple cotton, so I could wash it! It's clean now :)

Alright, I'm wearing makeup, which isn't period correct, but when you have pictures taking, you'd better wear makeup ;)
